Our Chairman Phil Pinder has been talking to YorkBID and they are looking into creating a task group with City of York Council and Make It York.
He has asked City of York Council to consider serious parking incentives to entice residents into town to support local businesses.
Visit York will be receiving more funding for marketing to encourage people to come for short breaks and day trips. This may obviously change due to introduced restrictions.
The YorkBID are putting together a reserve of funds to support a marketing campaign during and after the current COVID-19 situation so that we can try to recover the year.
He has written to the council as landlords to request a payment holiday for 3 months for all their tenants, with rent being increased for the last 6 months of the year. This will hopefully set and example for others to follow. The council have been responsive to helping with rent for tenants and other short term measures.
Phil is meeting with Sky News on Tuesday as they have chosen York to barometer how a city copes with the crisis over a period of 6 weeks.
