Some positive news to share. The council have been working hard on a plan, be ready for 15 June.

Priority implementation for 15 June:

  1. Extended foot streets
  2. Circulation management plan
  3. Business guidance issued
  4. Support service for businesses where queuing is challenging
  5. Blue badge parking alternatives in place
  6. Additional public toilets
  7. Transition from free key worker parking to the potential introduction of parking incentives for residents and visitors.

This means:

  1. Goodramgate, Lendal and Blake Street will become foot streets with no vehicle access outside loading times.
  2. A pack is to be sent to every business, including floor stickers and guidance.
  3. Same as 2.
  4. A team to assist business with big queues and limited space to make queues.
  5. Blue badge holders will be urged to use shopmobility or dial a ride services. We requested they write to every York blue badge holder.
  6. Toilets, more news on this Friday. But they will be open

Shambles will be one way to ease congestion. Other foot streets will be keep left, not enforceable, just suggestions to ease social distancing. Hopefully will make everyone feel safer. Shambles pedestrians from the bottom of the street will be guided into the market from the first entrance.

Space will be available in streets, shared space for bars and restaurants without outside space, although this is still in motion. Including ability to setup in other places if that works better.
